22nd March 2024, Chisinau - The European Council acknowledged the progress achieved by the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in making the necessary reforms on their path to European Union membership, as stated in the conclusions of the meeting held on Thursday, 21 March. The European Council urged EU member states to promptly approve the draft negotiating frameworks for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, and to proceed without delay.

The conclusions also highlight that the European Union will continue to extend all necessary support to the Republic of Moldova to address the challenges arising from Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Additionally, the EU will work to bolster the country's resilience, security, and stability in the face of Russia's destabilizing activities.

The European Council expressed appreciation for Member States' bilateral commitments to support the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova, aiming to enhance the resilience of the security sector.

It should be noted that in December 2023, the European Council resolved to commence accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova to the EU. Subsequently, on 13 March this year, the European Commission submitted the draft negotiating framework with the Republic of Moldova to the European Council for consideration.
