15th July 2024, Kyiv - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, is undertaking a working visit to Kyiv. Today, amidst a devastating war that has persisted for over two years, Ukraine commemorates Statehood Day.

“For 873 days, Ukrainians have valiantly defended their homeland, armed and resolute. Their struggle serves as an extraordinary lesson in dignity for all who cherish life, peace, and freedom. For a nation at war, statehood transcends a mere word; its loss signifies more than territorial forfeiture—it represents the abandonment of the very essence of its people”, emphasized Cristina Gherasimov.

The Deputy Prime Minister honoured the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people who are enduring the horrors of an unimaginable 21st-century war, noting that Ukraine's resistance ensures security and peace for the Republic of Moldova as well.

“We can only counter the brutal Russian aggression in concert with democracies across the European continent. The European path, upon which we have steadfastly embarked, is the sole route to restoring peace and tranquility to the region. This peace will afford us the prosperity we aspire to and the opportunity to develop as free, independent, and sovereign states, living in mutual understanding”, stated Cristina Gherasimov.
