Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, engaged in discussions today in Skopje with Bojan Marichikj, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia. The officials deliberated on the European agenda of our respective nations as EU candidate countries, emphasizing the necessity of enhancing political dialogue and sectoral cooperation to attain our shared strategic objective of European integration.

During the joint press conference, Cristina Gherasimov underscored our common foundational values, including a staunch commitment to freedom, security, the rule of law, and peace. She reiterated our solidarity with Ukraine and affirmed our endorsement of EU membership based on merit. Furthermore, she expressed confidence in the destiny of democracies within the EU's eastern neighborhood and the Western Balkans to eventually join the European family. This, she emphasized, is essential for securing a prosperous and peaceful future for our European citizens.

"I conveyed my appreciation for North Macedonia's support in the European trajectory of the Republic of Moldova, acknowledging the fruitful discussions we consistently engage in with our colleagues in Skopje," remarked Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov. "Our collaboration enhances our collective strength, and the exchange of perspectives and best practices has the potential to enhance effectiveness on both fronts", she added.

In this vein, she underscored our eagerness to glean insights into how the Skopje administration is navigating the intricate process of transposing the EU acquis and European standards in readiness for EU accession.
