7th May 2024, Vienna - "Europe Day 2024: The success story of enlargement - connecting past and future" is the title of the conference attended today by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, during her visit to Vienna.

She expressed appreciation for the audience's interest, which included officials and experts from Austria and other EU countries, in our country. She also conveyed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss our vision for the future - within the family of consolidated democracies in Europe.

"I underscored that the EU's enlargement 20 years ago serves as a testament to courage and determination for us, alongside the recognition that we have much ground to cover compared to countries that embarked on the European path in the late 1990s. Hence, we are steadfast today in our commitment to profound, systemic, and enduring changes that will propel Moldova towards modernization and integration into the European family", stated Cristina Gherasimov at the outset of the event.

Participation in the conference presented an opportunity to deliberate on the European trajectory of the Republic of Moldova, as well as to explore the experiences of countries that have either joined or are in the process of joining the EU. Additionally, during bilateral meetings, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration engaged in discussions on these topics with Mojmir Mrak, former Chief Advisor on Financial Aspects of EU Accession in the Government of Slovenia; Pavel Telička, former European Commissioner, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and Chief Negotiator with the EU for the Czech Republic; and Predrag Zenović, Chief Negotiator of Montenegro with the European Union.
