3rd May 2024, Chisinau - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, delivered a statement today on the occasion of International Press Freedom Day on 3rd May. The official emphasized the significance of this date for media professionals and all consumers of information.

"A free and robust press serves as a hallmark of a free and robust society, both in Moldova and globally. Such a society is nurtured by journalism that addresses community issues, combats crime and corruption, advocates for human rights, and safeguards the public interest. My heartfelt congratulations to all journalists who have embraced these values as their professional ethos", remarked Cristina Gherasimov in her message to the nation's media.

Furthermore, she underscored that freedom of the press stands as one of the fundamental values of the European Union. She expressed confidence that accession to the European area will provide journalists with enhanced professional opportunities and, most importantly, assurance in conducting their work securely. It is imperative that we strive towards this future today and in the years ahead.

"Let us elucidate to our citizens the significance of the EU and the advantages brought about by European integration. Let us articulate and demonstrate that Europe symbolizes peace and progress. I am eager to collaborate in this endeavor, and together, let us forge a European Moldova", concluded Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov.
