DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER CRISTINA GHERASIMOV AT THE GOVERNMENTAL FORUM IN ATHENS: THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA IS FIRMLY COMMITTED TO PEACE-BUILDING ON THE EUROPEAN CONTINENT

2nd July 2024, Chisinau - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov participated in the 28th edition of the annual Government Forum in Athens, leading a delegation headed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

 

The event focused on regional security issues, highlighting the significance of EU unity and expansion in building sustainable peace across the European continent. „The Forum provided an excellent platform to discuss, alongside Giorgos Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the importance of fortifying the European Union through the accession of new member states that share common values, thereby strengthening democracies across Europe”, stated Cristina Gherasimov.

 

During the discussion sessions, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the Republic of Moldova's firm commitment to contributing to the consolidation of peace and security on our continent as a future member of the European family. In Athens, Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov also met with Alexandra Papadopoulou, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and Ioannis Plakiotakis, Deputy Speaker of the Greek Parliament and Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee. The discussions focused on the latest developments in Moldova's European agenda and the steps being taken following the official launch of Moldova's EU accession negotiations last week.

 

Cristina Gherasimov also accompanied Prime Minister Dorin Recean in meetings with the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. „We greatly appreciate and are grateful to the authorities in Athens for their openness, for the support they have provided thus far, and for the expertise they are ready to offer to the Republic of Moldova on our European path”, concluded Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov.
