Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov delivered a speech at the inauguration of the conference titled "Strengthening Europe - Managing Enlargement and Reforms in the EU Simultaneously"

15th March 2024, Berlin - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, delivered a keynote address at the inauguration of the conference "Strengthening Europe - managing enlargement and reforms in the EU simultaneously," organized by the Greens in the Bundestag. Concurrently, she held discussions with Annalena Baerbock, the German Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the conference.

 

In her address, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov underscored the Republic of Moldova's ambitious reform agenda and its significant efforts amid the challenging regional landscape due to Russia's conflict with Ukraine. Emphasizing Moldova's unwavering commitment to solidarity and support for its neighbours during these challenging times, she highlighted the country's consistent dedication to such principles in the future.

 

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov highlighted Moldova's ongoing reforms aimed at modernization and eventual full membership in the European Union.

 

"We have prioritized initiatives to bolster security, diversified our energy resources away from Russian dependency, and maintained peace and stability in the Transnistrian region. Through unprecedented societal mobilization and the dedication of our political leaders and officials engaged in the Euro-integration process, we have achieved candidacy for EU membership", stated Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov.

 

In her address, the official expressed gratitude for the support extended to the Republic of Moldova by the German political class in its European endeavours, emphasizing the importance of this continued support in the future.

 

Furthermore, she reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to pursuing reforms, aligning national legislation with EU standards, and embracing European norms across all sectors. Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov emphasized the imperative of advancing along the path of Euro-integration expeditiously for the benefit of the country and its citizens.

 

During the Bundestag conference, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov held a conversation with Annalena Baerbock, Germany's Foreign Minister, and expressed her gratitude for the support that the Republic of Moldova receives from the Berlin authorities.

 

"I conveyed our appreciation for Germany's steadfast support within the EU, including its crucial role at the European Council in December 2023, which resulted in the initiation of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova", remarked Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov.
