Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov convened with several senior Latvian officials

22nd April 2024, Chisinau - Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov engaged in discussions today with a delegation of senior Latvian officials regarding Moldovan-Latvian cooperation within the framework of projects aimed at advancing Moldova's European integration. The delegation, led by Alise Balode, Director General of the Directorate for Economic Relations, Trade, and Development Cooperation at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is currently visiting Chisinau for a fact-finding mission.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov expressed her appreciation for the robust Moldovan-Latvian cooperation, highlighting Moldova's inclusion among the priorities of Latvia's development cooperation policy for 2021-2017. This commitment translates into additional projects aimed at enhancing governance and modernizing the country's infrastructure, ultimately leading to strengthened institutions and improved living standards for citizens.

 

Furthermore, Cristina Gherasimov extended gratitude to Latvia for its assistance during the 2022 refugee and energy crises, as well as for its support in regional initiatives. She cited the European Law and Economics Programme, initiated by the Riga Graduate School of Law in 2014 for EU Neighbourhood countries, as a notable example. To date, 69 Moldovans have successfully completed the program. Additionally, the official emphasized the significance of Riga's political backing within the EU to expedite Moldova's European integration efforts.
