The Joint Control Commission resumed its sessions on September 8, 2022, on Bender, after a scheduled break, with a focus on the current situation in the Security Zone, aggravated since this April by the abusive installation by the Transnistrian force structures of new posts that obstruct free movement.
These provocative actions of Tiraspol, as well as the unwillingness of the Transnistrian representatives to comply with the basic acts of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River, have generated a long-term blockage in the Commission's activity.
The parties exchanged views in trying to identify solutions to overcome the blockage.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova reiterated its position regarding the need for unconditional withdrawal of the new illegal posts from the area of responsibility of the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces. In this regard, proposals were formulated for a possible draft decision under this aspect.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova expressed its point of view in a statement dated August 4, 2022 with reference to the destructive approaches and increasingly manipulative rhetoric of the representatives of Tiraspol circulated recently in the mass media, but also on the platform of the Joint Control Commission, requesting the cessation of attempts to politicize the activity of the Commission and also attempts to involve it in improper actions. These activities diminish the level of trust between the JCC participants and make more difficult delivering stability in the Security Zone.
No consensus was reached during the meeting; discussions will continue next week.
