25 August 2025, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov met today with the Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Marilena Raouna, who will coordinate the priorities, activities and agenda of Cyprus' EU Council Presidency starting on 1 January 2026.

‘We discussed Moldova's progress on the European agenda, our efforts to ensure energy independence and strengthen the country's security, as well as the reforms we are implementing throughout the country to ensure a European future and a better life for every citizen,’ said Cristina Gherasimov.

Deputy Prime Minister thanked the authorities in Nicosia for their friendship, solidarity and cooperation.

‘Minister Raouna's visit is a strong signal of support for our country's European path. Cyprus' support, including during its EU Council Presidency, is important to us. Moldova is moving determinedly towards the EU, with reliable partners by its side’, added Cristina Gherasimov.

Cyprus is an EU member state for 21 years and is an example of a small country that, by joining the EU, has managed to develop economically, strengthen its position internationally and bring about major changes in the lives of its citizens.

On 1 January 2026, Cyprus will take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is currently held by Denmark.
