Cristina Gherasimov, at the meeting with Koen Lenaerts: An independent and efficient judiciary is the only way to build the rule of law
13 November 2024, Luxembourg – Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov met Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), in Luxembourg.
‘An independent, impartial and upright judiciary is one of the pillars of the European Union. For us, an independent and efficient judiciary is the only way to build the rule of law, a strong economy and a fair society,’ said Cristina Gherasimov.
The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Koen Lenaerts on the start of his fourth term as President of the Court and underlined the importance of the Republic of Moldova's active cooperation with the CJEU: ’We are particularly interested in training programmes for judges. Some of our magistrates are already benefiting from them. Thus, in February 2024, the CJEU was visited by a group of judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, who were involved in an extensive exchange of experience and best practices.’
According to Cristina Gherasimov, after the Republic of Moldova becomes an EU member country, our country will also delegate a judge to the CJEU. Founded in 1952, the CJEU is composed of judges appointed by each of the 27 Member States and ensures the uniform application and interpretation of EU law in all the Member States of the European Union.
