Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov hosted in Chișinău the Swedish Minister for European Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, who is on her first visit to the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of Cristina Gherasimov.

‘We had a good dialog about cooperation and friendship between Moldova and Sweden. We also talked about the progress on our European agenda and how we can learn from the Swedish experience in areas such as digitalisation, environmental protection and the rule of law. Sweden is a key partner for our country, a role model of functioning democracy and a strong ally’, said Cristina Gherasimov.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Sweden's support - through its expertise, development projects and political backing - is concretely helping us to improve people's lives.

Jessica Rosencrantz emphasised that EU membership is a far-reaching process of transformation which requires considerable efforts.

‘Joining the European Union is one of the best decisions a country can make. Sweden has benefited a lot economically from membership. Access to the single market has brought added value for our consumers and businesses. We have become richer, freer and more secure as a country’, said Jessica Rosencrantz.

Today, 7 May, Cristina Gherasimov and Jessica Rosencrantz will visit the Ialoveni district, where they will meet with representatives of local public authorities and citizens and talk with them about the benefits of European integration. They will also participate in Europe Day activities organised in the city of Ialoveni.
