Cristina Gherasimov at the European Committee of the Regions: ’Local elected representatives know best the problems in their communities and can bring Europe closer to every citizen’
15 May 2025, Brussels - During a working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov attended the 166th plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions. In her speech, the Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the actions being taken in the Republic of Moldova to strengthen local public administration, including the progress made in the process of voluntary amalgamation.
’European Moldova is being built together - with the involvement of the central authorities, but also of every municipality in the country. Local elected representatives know best the problems in their communities and are the ones who can bring Europe closer to every citizen’, said Cristina Gherasimov.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the European partners for their support to Moldova on its European path, especially in guiding local authorities to access European funds, modernise public services - as close as possible to the needs of the people - and build stronger and more prosperous communities.
’European Moldova means well-managed villages and towns with modern infrastructure, safe schools, quality health services and real opportunities for all citizens - no matter where they live on the map of Moldova’, added Cristina Gherasimov.
