Cristina Gherasimov: ‘In the EU, the rule of law is non-negotiable. It is a fundamental value, and Moldova wants to be part of this community.’
18 July 2025, Chișinău - ‘In the European Union, the rule of law is non-negotiable. It is a fundamental value, and Moldova wants to be part of this community precisely because we share these values.’ This is the message conveyed by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov at the regional conference ‘Strengthening Judicial Independence and Accountability: Regional Perspectives and Challenges.’
In her speech, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that justice reform is the essence of our European Integration process and the key to transforming the state into a safe, fair and predictable space for all citizens.
‘Without an independent and credible judiciary, we cannot talk about a European Moldova where the law is equal for all and citizens trust that justice will be done. Today, more than ever, when the region is engaged in an existential struggle between law and abuse, between democracy and aggression, the legal profession is called upon to be an anchor of stability and hope’, said Cristina Gherasimov.
The event is organised by the Superior Council of Magistracy of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Council of Europe, as part of the ‘Support for Justice Reform’ project.
