12th June 2024, Chisinau – Ghenadie Marian, Head of the Bureau for European Integration, met yesterday with Pascal Schonard, Director of the Authority for European Political Parties and Foundations (APPF). The visit aimed to strengthen long-term cooperation between the APPF and state institutions, including the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), at the early stages of the Republic of Moldova's EU accession process.

During the meeting, the functions of the APPF, an agency established under EU Regulation 1141/2014 of the European Parliament to register European political parties and foundations and ensure their activities and funding comply with European values and rules, were emphasised.

The discussions also underscored the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the European authority and the Central Electoral Commission in Chisinau. Additionally, the possibility for Moldova to become an observer member of the APPF programmes was considered, which would facilitate the exchange of best practices and data on transparency in political party financing.
