9 September, Chisinau – On our European path, we prioritize and support social peace, through cooperation and transparent dialogue. In this regard, the Bureau team was present today at the roundtable organised by the Civil Society of European Integration. Together with experts from state institutions, the opportunities that the creation of the Economic and Social Committee in the Republic of Moldova would bring to society were discussed.

“We encourage you to continue working to develop the civil society collaboration platform, and the Bureau remains open to any cooperation for a participatory European path”, emphasized Rodica Jereghi, Head of the European Affairs Department and Deputy Head of the Bureau for European Integration.

Another point discussed during the meeting was the importance of realising that, once created, the institution won’t exclude those existent but will help them be more active.

The advantage of the Republic of Moldova as a candidate country for EU accession is the opportunity to adopt the best practices through the European operational memory of Romania and other European states, where such Economic and Social Committee already exists – a guarantor of connecting public institutions to the issues faced by the civil society.

According to experts, the process of creating such an institution is arduous, and we are currently at the initial discussion stage. Consultations with employers, the rest of civil society, and members of ministries will follow. Additionally, ways of securing funding from the state budget, including EU funds during the pre-accession period, will be sought to strengthen the current mechanism.

The project of creating the Economic and Social Committee in the Republic of Moldova is launched by the Civil Society for European Integration, financed by the European Union and cofinanced by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
