13th March 2024, Chisinau - The Government has endorsed the restructuring of both the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under this restructuring, the Bureau for European Integration (BIE) within the State Chancellery will assume responsibility for tasks related to European integration, excluding political and security dialogue with the EU.

The primary objective of the Bureau will be to ensure compliance with the criteria for our country's accession to the EU, as well as the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. To effectively carry out these responsibilities, the Bureau will be organised into four divisions: Accession Process Coordination Directorate, European Affairs Directorate, Communication and Training Directorate, and Translation Service.

The Bureau will also receive additional human resources, with the Government approving an increase in staff numbers from 23 to 42. Furthermore, career diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with expertise in European integration and officials from other public authorities may be seconded to the BIE.

"Through these restructuring measures, we aim to establish a more robust Bureau for European Integration with enhanced competencies and capacities to coordinate and streamline the European integration process at the national level", stated Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.
