In Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov met with officials from the Bundestag, the Federal Chancellery, and the Federal Government

16th March 2024, Berlin - During her working visit to Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov engaged in meetings with various officials from the Bundestag, the Federal Chancellery, and the Federal Government. The discussions centered around Moldova's European path and the reform agenda of the authorities in Chisinau.

 

The meetings addressed the regional situation and developments in Moldova's European integration agenda with members of the Bundestag, including Anton Hofreiter, Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on European Affairs; Nils Schmid, SPD foreign policy spokesman and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and Knut Abraham from the CDU, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

 

The discussions covered the implementation of the European Commission's three most recent recommendations and the government's current priorities for the EU accession negotiation process. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue at the parliamentary level, especially in light of the ongoing screening of European legislation and its alignment with national legislation.

 

During her visit to Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov engaged in discussions with Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. She expressed gratitude for Germany's economic and infrastructure assistance to Moldova, which benefits the citizens, and hoped for ongoing support on Moldova's path to EU membership.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov also held discussions with Jens Plötner, Foreign and Security Policy Adviser, and Undine Ruge, European Policy Adviser, from the Office of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The dialogue covered the current security challenges in Europe and Moldova, the EU accession process, and Moldova's progress in implementing its European agenda.

 

Gherasimov thanked her interlocutors for Germany's consistent multi-sectoral support to Moldova over the years, acknowledging the strong friendship and solidarity that she hoped to continue and strengthen in the future.
