The 8th Meeting of the Republic of Moldova - European Union Association Council is scheduled to take place in Brussels

18th May 2024, Chisinau - The forthcoming eighth meeting of the Republic of Moldova-European Union Association Council is scheduled to convene next week in Brussels on 21st May. Leading the delegation from Chisinau will be Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.

 

Co-chairing the meeting will be the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, alongside Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, and with the participation of the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.

 

In Brussels, discussions will revolve around the evolution of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union within the framework of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as well as the state of preparations for the formal opening of accession negotiations.

 

The agenda will encompass discussions on political dialogue and reforms, justice, freedom, and security, cooperation and convergence in the realm of foreign and security policy, and economic and sectoral cooperation, with energy and trade as primary focal points.

 

Simultaneously, two significant documents for our country will be signed during the Association Council: The Moldova-EU Security and Defence Partnership and the Agreement on Moldova's participation in the Employment and Social Innovation Programme (EaSI), facilitating access to funds for the implementation of social policies.
